Studebaker Golden Hawk

In July 1956, Speed Age magazine compared Studebaker's Golden Hawk with the most famous US sports cars of those years - the Chrysler 300 B, Ford Thunderbird and Chevrolet Corvette, noting that the Golden Hawk outperformed its competitors in speed and dynamic performance, comfort and acceleration from 0 to 60 mph (7.8 seconds).

This car was also the best in the quarter mile race. The maximum speed exceeded 125 mph (201 kph).

This wonderful car was created by the oldest American automaker, Studebaker, at a time when the first signs of failure had not yet appeared on its horizon, and Raymond Loewy, the company's chief designer, was at the zenith of his creative success.

The basis of the model's styling was borrowed from the 1953-55 Champion coupe. A large, near-vertical grille was added to raise the hood line, and at the rear, fiberglass fins were attached to the fenders.

The change to the front end was not only aesthetic, but an increase in the engine compartment was required in order to accommodate the huge Packard V-8 (by this time acquired by Studebaker) with a volume of 352 cu in (5.8 liters) and a capacity of 275 hp.

In 1957, the appearance of the model has undergone some changes. A fiberglass cover appeared on the hood, covering the cutout necessary to accommodate the supercharger.

The metal fins were slightly reshaped, made concave, framed in chrome and painted, as a rule, in a contrasting color. For the entire period of production from 1956 to 1958, Studebaker produced only 4.071 Golden Hawk cars.

In the middle of the 1957 model year, the company produced a special series of 41 cars with leather interior, cloth trunk upholstery and special trim.
