A True Englishman, Balanced and Powerful

The XK120 is a sports car model from the Jaguar company that was produced in 1948–1954. Powerful and fast, it can reach speeds of up to 124 mph (200 kph). And specially prepared cars, unlike production ones, can accelerate to almost 137 mph (220 kph). At the same time, the speed of 100 kph (62 mph) is reached in just 9.8 seconds.

The model received its name XK120 based on its estimated speed, expressed in miles. The engine here is a six-cylinder, equipped with two overhead camshafts, with a volume of 210 ci (3.4 liters).

During the production period, the model was equipped with engines of different power levels (162, 182, and 213 hp). It can produce maximum thrust at just 2500 rpm and then spin up to 6500 rpm without much effort.

The Jaguar XK120 not only has excellent hardware but also an impeccable appearance. A true Englishman, balanced and powerful, he looks impressive and magnificent. Everything in it is thought out to the smallest detail and implemented in the best possible way.

Development

This model has been developed and improved over many years. Its engine was created during the Second World War. Serial production of the Jaguar XK120 was not intended by its creator.

In 1948, during the Earl's Court Motor Show, it was the engine of this model that was presented to the public. To do this, it was mounted on the XK120 prototype, "Jaguar Super Sports."

The public received it with admiration, and the Jaguar company decided to begin mass production of the model. However, at first, this had some difficulties since car panels were made from aluminum manually, which required significant labor and time. As a result, in 1949, the company produced only 240 cars of this model.

But they are all unique, as they were created with an original aluminum body. The following year, automated mass production of the XK120 was launched, which resulted in a much larger number of sports cars.

Initially, the model was produced exclusively in the roadster body, but soon the company began producing a coupe (1951) and a convertible (1953). The total number of cars created by the company over six years was 12,078 units. More than 80% of them were exported, mostly to America.

24 Hours of Le Mans

At that time, among all production cars, the Jaguar XK120 was the fastest. He took part in races. So in 1950, as many as three XK120 models took part in the 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance competition. True, none of them reached the prize places.

Three years after the creation of the first cars of this model, Jaguar developed and released its sports version, the XK120-C-Type, which won a victory at the Le Mans competition in 1951 (Drivers: Peter Whitehead and Peter Walker).
